Painless Way to SetUp WordPress Locally
In this article, you will learn how you can install WordPress locally.
Normally, if you want to build a wordpress site, you need to buy a domain and hosting, and then launch your live website.
But if you don’t want to launch a website yet, and just want to try and test wordpress, you can do that by following this article.
Okay! So, when you install wordpress locally all your website’s files will be stored on your computer, and this means only you will be able to access your website.
Now, this is a great way for you to learn to make your website free of cost. And, once you’ve built your wordpress site locally, you can then move it to a live website.
To install it on our computer we’re going to use a software named Localwp. This is free software that helps you to install as many WordPress websites as you want.
We’re going to install WordPress on our PC in 3 simple steps!

- Install WordPress Locally
- Logging in to the backend of your Website
1. Download and Install Localwp Software
To the software on your computer go to Localwp by clicking here and you’ll get this page.
Now click on Download for free to download the free software.
Now it will ask you to choose your operating system. For example, I’ve Windows on my PC so I’ll select Windows.
It doesn’t matter which operating system you’re using, the installation process going to be the same.
Now enter your personal details as shown here and click on the Get it Now button.
Once you’ve downloaded the software, go to your download folder and double-click on the Localwp icon and it will show the following screen.
Then, click on the Next button.
Next, click on the install button.
Now, wait for some time as it takes a while in the installation process.
Once the process is complete click on Finish to finish the installation.
So now you’ve installed Localwp on your computer. Next, let’s see how to install a WordPress website locally.
2. Install WordPress Locally
So now you have LocalWp on your system and it will start automatically once the installation process is complete, and you’ll get this screen.
To start creating your website click on Create New Site.
Enter the name of your site and click continue.
Now let’s say I name my website Wordpress, then the domain of my local website will be wordpress.local.
Now it will ask you to choose these settings:
- PHP Version,
- Web Server, and
- MySQL Version
Now, these settings are by default set to the latest versions, so I’d recommend you to go with the preferred settings.
But if you have some special requirements then you can change the settings accordingly.
I’ll go with the preferred settings and click on Continue.
Now enter your username and password for the WordPress installation. These are the credentials that you need when you want to open the backend of your WordPress website.
Now it will take some time to do the setup and it will ask you to allow some settings one-by-one so just click on Yes for every popup.
Once the setup is complete, your screen will look like this.
So now if you click on the Open Site button then you’ll see that your website is now accessible locally on you computer.
So now we have installed WordPress locally on our system. You can now go to the third step which is logging in to the backend of WordPress.
3. log in to the WordPress Backend
To login directly to WordPress backend without entering your login details just turn on the One-Click Admin option and click on the Admin button.
Now if you want to login directly from the browser then type wp-admin after your site’s URL and then enter your credentials.
So now you’ve logged in to the WordPress backend and you can start editing your content.
